Weisman, Aly. "Outlawed 'Argo' DVDs Are Selling by the Thousands in Iran." GlobalPost. N.p., 1 Feb. 2013. Web. 09 Mar. 2014.
This article tells of how Iran not only banned screenings of Argo in its country, but it filmed its own response to Argo to show its version of the historical events that took place. Iranians however do not want to see their country’s version of the hostage crisis, they want Affleck’s. According to the Wall Street Journal underground movie sellers in Iran say this film is their best seller in years and they estimated several hundred thousand copies sold. One student is quoted saying he thinks that this movement by the Iranian people is a sign that they want to move past the hostile behavior towards the United States.
This article is interesting because the only other reactions by Iranians have been government officials. This shows that the Iranian people do not necessarily agree with their government concerning Argo. This adds another element to my paper because it shows that not all Iranians were upset with the film, as many wanted to see it. I think the comment made by the student is very interesting considering the portrayal of Iranians in Argo is less than positive. The fact that he believes that letting the Iranian people see this movie will help the U.S-Iran relationship is a unique thought. Most people see Argo as fuel to the already burning fire of hatred towards Iran.
